Perfect for porridge!
The iconic Quaker Oats Company was founded in 1901 in New Jersey and for more than a century, its popular oat flakes have accompanied the breakfasts of people all over the world. A cooked oats breakfast remains a favourite and has stood up to the test of time, thanks to its simplicity and wholesome goodness, not to mention how easy it is to prepare. A bowl of oatmeal lends itself to even the busiest of households. With a few staple ingredients from the pantry and a few minutes, one can have a nutritious and satisfying meal at breakfast time. Above all, oats are a whole grain and so they are high in soluble fiber, rich in protein and low on the glycemic index, that leaves one feeling fuller longer and helps keep hunger at bay from the morning straight to lunch.
For a lovely steaming bowl, just heat the oats on the hob with water or milk and stir for a few minutes until it thickens to porridge consistency. After that, let it sit a moment and then its ready to serve.
Whether refered to as porridge or oatmeal, there are so many ways to enjoy it. Sweet or savoury? There are those who love it served right off the stove top with just a pinch of salt. The modern take on breakfast oats are “Overnight” oats that can be prepared without cooking. Just combine milk, oats and your favourite extras (like honey, dried cranberries and chopped almonds) and let sit overnight. In the morning, the oats will be softened and ready to eat.
