The main ingredients of Colman's tartare sauce are produced in Britain, with parsley grown in Norfolk and free-range British eggs. Tartar sauce takes its name from the steak tartare, with which it was commonly served in France in the 19th century. Recipes for tartar sauce have been found in English cookbooks dating back to the mid-19th century, including a recipe in Modern Cookery for Private Families from 1860.
